I just unearthed this wonderful vintage catalog of plus size vintage fashions from Lane Bryant, the leading distributor of larger size clothing and accessories from the deco 1930s. The Style Book of Slenderizing Fashions.
Fabulous deco early 1934 and 1935 fall and winter vintageĀ fashions are shown for the larger lady which shows that plus size clothing even in the 30s was stylish and up to date with what was happening in the fashion world.
These dresses, coats, shoes and hats are the same styles and silhouettes as the smaller sizes.
So yes, larger sizes were available and not at all dowdy or old lady looking.
I have a large inventory of plus and larger sized clothing from the 1930s through the 60s to add to Bettes Bargains Vintage clothing shop in the near future.
Below are a few photos from the book and some items from my shop that mirror these styles.
All catalog photos courtesy of a 1930s Lane Bryant fashion book.
